Leon Montgomery byl 22 let profesorem na University of Pittsburgh. Zabýval se indexováním a hledáním informací. Byl jedním ze zakladatelů TERNu (telecommunication education research network). Na jeho památku bylo vytvořeno FORE Montgomery Intership pro studenty telekomunikačních studií. V současnosti je také možnost se zúčastnit stáže K. Leon Montgomery Assistantship in Telecommunications, které bylo také vytvořeno na počest památky Dr. K. L. Montgomeryho.
Život
Narodil se 8. listopadu 1933 a zemřel o 59 let později 18. Února 1993. V roce 1965 úspěšně dokončil magisterské studium v oblasti informační vědy na University of Pittsburgh. V roce 1972 zde získal Ph. D. titul. Od roku 1971 se stal členem fakulty, mezi lety 1981 – 1984 byl vedoucím oddělení informační vědy. V letech 1984 – 1987 byl proděkanem fakulty informačních věd.
Dílo
V roce 1990 vymyslel koncept sítě pro výzkum telekomunikace na národní úrovni. Z této myšlenky vznikl TERN (telecommunication education research network), což byla nejmodernější telekomunikační síť pro výzkum a vzdělávání, která propojila 31 univerzit napříč Spojenými státy.
