Život

Diane Sonnenwald ve své profesní dráze získala řadu titulů a ocenění. První ocenění přišlo již v roce 1987, a sice Bell Communications Research Award of Excellence. Je zajímavé, že toto ocenění získala daleko dříve, než například doktorát, který získala roku 1993 na univerzitě v New Jersey-New Brunswick v oboru Informační věda. Diane Sonnenwald začala svou profesní kariéru na pozici analytičky systémů ve společnosti Warner Lambert, kde pracovala v letech 1977 - 1980. Od roku 1980 působila v rámci společnosti Bell, pět let oblasti Bell Labs a později osm let ve stejné společnosti v oboru výzkumu komunikací. Rámci post-doktorského působení byla od roku 1993 dva roky v Národní laboratoři pro obnovitelnou energii v Risø. Po těchto zkušenostech se Diane Sonnenwald přesouvá na akademickou půdu, kde střídavě působila v různých pozicích na různých univerzitách. Od roku 1995 tak působila po dobu osmi let, do roku 2003, na Univerzitě Severní Karolíny v pozici docentky. Tuto univerzitu zcela neopustila ani v budoucnu, a až do současnosti zde působí jako externí profesorka. Působila také nějakou dobu ve Švédsku, od roku 2003 do roku 2006, jako profesorka Švédské školy knihovnictví a informační vědy, a také jako ředitelka "Center of Collaborative Innovation". V roce 2010 byla zvolena prezidentkou ASIS&T (Asociace pro informační vědu a technologie) a v této pozici působila až do roku 2013. Zároveň od roku 2009 do roku 2014 zastávala pozici profesorky a předsedkyně informačních a knihovních studií na University College of Dublin. V současnosti se plně věnuje práci v University of Copenhagen v Dánsku.

Dílo

Jako charakteristiku díla Diane Sonnenwald jsem si dovolila citovat její vlastní popis své osoby a profesního života na profesionální síti LinkedIn:

"Vedu výzkumné projekty, které oslovují komplexní a důležité spolupracovní a infocentrické problémy a výzvy, které vyvstávají z různých oborů. Já a můj výzkumný tým jsme doposud dokázali: navrhnout a vyhodnotit novelizovanou technologii pro spolupráci; odhalit nové způsoby, kterými mohou lidé a organizace spolupracovat a sdílet informace efektivněji; identifikovali jsme socio-technické překážky spolupráce; a vyvinuli jsme novou teorii založenou na našich zjištěních. Abychom těchto výsledků mohli dosáhnout, upravili jsme metody jak kvalitativního tak kvantitativního výzkumu integrovaným způsobem. Nedávné projekty se soustředily na komplexní spolupráci a sdílení informací v kontextu e-science, e-social science a e-medicine. V těchto projektech jsem aktivně zapojila studenty i kolegy a spolupracovala s výzkumníky jiných oborů. "

Aktivity

Diane Sonnenwald ve svém díle věnuje pozornost zejména na spolupráci, design a užití technologií, informační chování v různých kontextech (například i v policejní práci, zdravotnictví etc.). V současnosti pracuje na knize o teoretickém vývoji v informační vědě. Publikovala přes 80 odborných prací a účastnila se editorských procesů v pěti časopisech. Pro svůj výzkum získala více než 20 grantů z nejrůznějších míst, například z Národního institutu zdraví, Národní lékařské knihovny, ESF a dalších. Získala také nespočet cen, nejnovější v roce 2014.
