Život

Amanda Helen Spink sa narodila v roku 1958 v Sydney, v Austrálii. Po svadbe sa presťahovala so svojím maželom do New Yorku. Jej manžel pracoval pre Australian bank a v New Yorku mu ponúkli nové pracovné miesto. Amanda Spink navštevovala strednú školu v austrálskom meste Kingsgrove (Kingsgrove North High School). Potom pokračovala na v štúdiu na univerzitách. Podarilo sa jej ukončiť vzdelanie a získať tituly: B.A. História a Politická veda na Austrálskej národnej univerzite (Australian National University]) v Camberre; M.B.A. na Fordhamskej Univerzite v New Yorku; Postgraduate Diploma of Librarianship na Univerzite v Novom Južnom Walese], PhD v “Spätnej väzbe vo vyhľadávaní informácií” (Feedback in Information Retrieval) na Rugterskej Univerzite v New Jersey.

Taktiež zakončila vzdelanie titulom Ph.D na University of North Texas, predtým ako začala pôsobiť ako docentka na Katedre informačnej vedy na Univerzite v Pittsburghu.

Aktivity

Svoju kariéru zahájila v Sydney, kde pracovala ako knihovníčka.

Počas života v New Yorku sa profesná orientácia profesorky Spink presunula z knihovníckej oblasti do oblasti marketingu. Na pozícii marketingovej manažérky, pre IT konzultačnú firmu Comstar Services, získala bohaté skúsenosti v prostredí podnikového poradenstva. Bola zodpovedná za marketingové elektronické služby, ktoré zahŕňali pravidelné rokovania s klientmi z Wall street.

Taktiež bola súdnym znalcom pre Google v právnom jednaní proti austrálskej vláde (využívanie sponzorovaných a nesponzorvaných odkazov).

Venuje sa výskumu a pracuje v troch rôznych zemiach. Patrí medzi medzinárodne renomovaných odborníkov na poli Informačnej vedy.

Profesorka Amanda Spink v septembri 2010 nastúpila na Katedru Informačnej vedy na Loughboroughskej Univerzite, kde pôsobí dodnes.

Význam pre Informačnú vedu

Hlavným výskumným záujmom Profesorky Spink je téma “Ako ľudia používajú informácie?”.

“Zhromaždila som množstvo informácií o interakciách (aktívnych stretoch) ľudí s webom, so systémemami vyhľadávania informácií a spolupracovala som s množstvom webových spoločností v Spojených štátoch.”

Výskum profesorky Spink sa sústredí na teoretické a empirické štúdie informačného správania, zahŕňajúc evolučné a vývojové základy.

Jej výskumy sponzorujú: The National Science Foundation, the American Library Association, Andrew R. Mellon Foundation, Amazon.com, Vivisimo. Com, Infospace.com, NEC, IBM, Excite.com, AlltheWeb.com, AltaVista.com, FAST a Lockheed Martin.

Rovnako sa jej pozornosť sústredí na vytvorenie tzv. profilu/modelu vyhľadávania informácií.

Vo svojich publikáciach sa ďalej zaoberá štúdiom užívateľov a informačnej architektúry, závislosťou na internete a počítačoch, "dlhým chvostom", (long tail), multitaskingom, analýzou vyhľadávania sexuálneho a pornografického obsahu na webe, personalizáciou vyhľadávčov...

Úspechy

V roku 2008 dosiahla druhé najvyššie H-index citačné skóre vo svojom odbore (v rokoch 1998 - 2008). Jej výskumy boli prezentované na mnohých konferenciách, napr. ASIST, IEEE ITCC, CAIS, Internet Computing, ACM SIGIR, a ISIC Conferences.

Napísala a prispela do viac ako 350 publikácií a je autorkou 7 kníh.
