Známý pro model informačního chování

David Ellis je anglickým profesorem na univerzitě v Aberystwythu. Je zde členem výboru pro vývojovou strategii.

Věnuje se výzkumu v oblasti informačního a znalostního managementu, informačních potřeb, uživatelských studií, získávání informací, akademické komunikace, komunikace v organizacích, ne-technických aspektů informačních systémů, informační politiky a strategie, informačních a komunikačních auditů.1

Vzdělání

Dr. Ellis obdržel titul BA na Durnhamské Univerzitě ve Spojeném království a titul MA a PhD v informační vědě na Univerzitě v Sheffieldu. Zde pracoval jako lektor a později jako docent, od roku 1984 až do roku 2000. V roce 2000 opustil Sheffield a přešel na Univerzitu ve Walesu, kde získal titul profesora v informačních studiích a knihovnictví. V tomto směru zůstal aktivní a stal se aktivní i mezinárodně. Stal se členem redakční rady tří časopisů (the New Review of Document and Text Management, the International Journal of Information Management a Aslib Proceedings) a dvou mezinárodních organizačních výborů.2

Dílo

Jeho nejvlivnější článek byl publikován již na začátku jeho kariéry v roce 1989. Tento článek s názvem “A Behavioural Approach to Information Retrieval System Design” byl zveřejněn v časopise "Journal of Documentation". Je shrnutím Ellisových empirických studií, ve kterých se dotazoval několika fakultních a výzkumně-orientovaných zaměstnanců v různých divizích na katedře psychologie Sheffieldské Univerzity o jejích praktikách vyhledávání informací.2

Ellisův model informačního chování
Modely informačního chování se snaží popsat a objasnit procesy při hledání informací a také okolnosti, které hledání ovlivňují.3
