Přínos pro informační vědu

Batya Friedman je průkopníkem koncepce hodnotově citlivého designu (Value Sensitive Design), která se soustředí na dopady, které technologie mají na prospěch lidí a kvalitu jejich života. VSD se zabývá hodnotami, které mají morální význam např. soukromí, respekt, důvěra, intelektuální vlastnictví, morální odpovědnost, svoboda projevu, lidskou důstojnost a mnoho dalších. Kromě morálních hodnot klade VSD důraz na použitelnost, konvenci, osobní zájmy. Lidské hodnoty jsou do procesu návrhu technologie zahrnuty uplatněním trojdílné metodologie, kterou hodnotově citlivý design přináší. Trojdílnost představuje uplatnění tří druhů zkoumání: konceptuální, empirická a technologická. VSD je univerzálně aplikovatelnou koncepcí a lze ji použít všude tam, kde mají lidské hodnoty dopad na používání určité technologie, systému nebo postupu. VSD byl od svého začátku aplikován v informačním managementu, interakci člověk - robot, počítačové bezpečnosti. V současnosti pracuje na designu informačního systému s více délkami života (Multi-lifespan information system design) a metodách představení si nových nápadů s využitím informačních systémů k formování naší budoucnosti. [2]

Úspěchy

V roce 2012 vyhrála SIG-CHI - cena sociálního dopadu od skupiny specializované na HCI z Asociace pro výpočetní techniku. Tuto čest získávají jednotlivci, kteří se uplatní v výzkumu interakce člověk-počítač v naléhavých sociálních potřebách. [3]
