Brenda Louise Dervin je výzkumní pracovnicí v komunikačních, knihovnických a informačních oblastech, profesorka komunikací a členka fakulty Joan N. Hubera v sociálních a behaviorálních vědách na School of Communication at Ohio State University.

Bibliografie

Její matka Ermina Diluiso byla třetí ze sedmi detí italských imigrantů. Otěhotnela v pubertě, byla svobodná a proto, že věděla, jaké by byli reakce její rodiny, skrývala své těhotenství. Dítě(B.L. Dervin) se narodilo 20.listopadu 1938. Erminin otec dítě vykázal z domu, tak ho její brat vzal do nemocnice, odkud bylo převezeno do sirotčince, kde bylo šest a půl roku. V tomto věku ji adoptoval John Jordan Dervin so svoji ženou Marjorie. Vyzvedli ji na Bostonském vlakovém nádraží s autem plným hraček, dárkp a oblečení, které bylo moc velké pro tak podviživené dítě. Pojmenovali ji Brenda Louise Dervin. Bydlel s nimi i její také adoptovaný bratr Johny. Marjorie byla na Brendu často krát fyzicky i verbálně hrubá. Brat se jí nezastával a proto se jijí nejlepšími přítely stali knihy, a to až do doby, kdy graduovala na škole v Michiganu. Ve věku 32 let byla bucena spomalit, protože bylo zjištěno, že má rakovinu. Snažila se najít svou matku, no našla jenom její 2 sestry, se kterými pak trávila stracený čas.[1]

Vzdělání

Doktorka Dervinová získala bakalářský titul v roce 1960 na Cornell University. Magisterský titul v roce 1968 a PhD titul v roce 1971 získala díky výzkumu v oblasti komunikací na University of Michigan. V roce 2000 byla také oceněna titulem PhD v oblasti sociálních věd na University of Helsinki.
