Život

Lynn Silipigni Connaway se narodila v Pensylvánském městě Rochester (USA), avšak od roku 1978 bydlí v Coloradu. Své první zaměstnání získala v G. C. Murphy’s, kde pracovala jako vedoucí maloobchodu a pokladní. Ve svém volném čase ráda lyžuje, čte, vaří, plete a ráda chodí na túry.[3]

 

Vzdělání

V letech 1973 až 1977 navštěvovala Edinboro State University (Edinboro, PA), kde získala titul bakaláře vědy v oboru knihovní vědy. V roce 1981 nastoupila na Western State College (Gunnison, CO), kde během jednoho roku získala certifikát specialisty médií. V letech 1986 až 1988 navštěvovala University of Arizona (Tucson, AZ), kterou úspěšně ukončila magisterským titulem. Poté nastoupila na University of Wisconsin-Madison (Madison, WI). Zde na podzim roku 1992, kde díky své disertační práci s názvem The Levels of Decisions and Involvement in Decision - Making: Effectiveness and Job Satisfaction in Academic Library Technical Services získala doktorský titul.[4]

 

Dílo 

Vede OCLC výzkum User Behavior Studies & Synthesis a v rámci jejích povinností spravuje projekty, které se přímo týkají OCLC knihoven a uživatelů, třeba jeden ze stežejních datových projektů WorldCat nebo uživatele ve virtuálním výzkumném prostředí a mnoho dalších. Aktuálně ku příkladu působí jako jeden z hlavních řešitelů projektu financovaného IMLS spolu s University of Florida a Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, ve kterém řeší, jak studenti vědy, techniky, inženýrství a matematiky posuzují důvěryhodnost digitálních zdrojů. V rámci výzkumu chování uživatelů navázala mezinárodní spolupráci s University of Oxford, v roce 2014 jí byl udělen post Chair of Excellence na Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), stala se hostující vědkyní na Royal School of Library and Information Science a taktéž se v roce 2009 stala hostující vědkyní Katedry informačních studií a knihovníctví na University of Sheffield.[5]

 

Projekty

Cyber Synergy

Tento projekt navrhuje nový model, který umožňuje virtuálním referenčním službám (Virtual Reference Services, VRS) zůstat životaschopné navzdory dnešnímu prostředí omezených zdrojů. Projekt zkoumá možnosti spolupráce znalostních institucí (knihoven) a sociálních Q&A komunit (SQA). Neustále se vyvíjející VRS umožňují přístup ke knihovním službám prostřednictvím textových zpráv, mobilních zařízení a sociálních sítí, čímž zvyšují uživatelský komfort. SQA pak poskytují knihovnám, kvůli neustále snižujícím se rozpočtům, příležitosti ke sdílení zdrojů a vytváření příjmů prostřednictvím spolupráce. Tento projekt ve třech fázích poskytne důkazy a umožní navrhnout nový model služeb pro spolupráci knihoven.[6]

 

Digital Information Seeker Report (OCLC/JISC)

V rámci projektu Digital Information Seeker Report bylo analyzováno 12 závěrečných zpráv knihoven z uživatelských studií, které byly vydány v roce 2005 a 2009 organizacemi JISC, OCLC, a RIN. Tato zpráva má usnadnit informačním profesionálům lépe porozumět uživatelům knihoven v rámci vyhledávání informací a přezkoumat otázky, které souvisejí s rozvojem informačních služeb a které nejlépe odpovídají potřebám těchto uživatelů. Díky této analýze bylo možné u těchto 12 studií identifikovat společné i rozporuplné výsledky. [7]

 

Digital Visitors and Residents

Studie financovaná JISC, kde ve spolupráci mezi University of Oxford, OCLC Research a University of North Carolina Charlotte zkoumali teorii digitálních rezidentů a návštěvníků (the theory of digital residents and visitors) se studujícími na různých edukačních úrovních. Cílem tohoto projektu je zjistit důvody fungování s tím, že porozumíme-li motivaci zkoumaných skupin do informačního prostředí, máme tak větší šanci splnit očekávání a vytvářet použitelné a hodnotné služby. Seeking Synchronicity

Čtyř-fázový projekt s celým názvem Hledání synchronicity: Vyhodnocování virtuálních referenčních služeb uživatele, neuživatele a knihovnické perspektivy. Tento projekt inovativně řeší otázky týkající se hodnocení, udržitelnosti a významu virtuálních referenčních služeb (VRS) pro knihovny. Cílem je zvýšení využívání, uznání a atraktivnosti VRS pro veřejnost.[9]

 

Virtual Research Environment (OCLC/JISC)

Společný výzkum mezi JISC a OCLC reaserch s cílem zjistit, shromažďovat a analyzovat důkazy o chování výzkumných pracovníků v digitálním prostředí. Analýza se týkala financovaných výzkumů JISC, z nichž by bylo možné odvodit obraz dnešního výzkumníka. [10]


WorldCat Publisher Pages

The WorldCat Publisher Pages, webová platforma, která sdružuje a prezentuje informace o nakladatelstvích, nakladatelích a autorech s cílem vytvoření profilu celosvětových vůdčích nakladatelství. Profily obsahují zejména název nakladatelství, lokalitu, jména nejznámějších autorů, jazyk vydaných publikací a historii publikací vydavatele. Stránky představují téměř 2000 vydavatelských subjektů, které naleznete po celém světě např. ve Spojených státech, Velké Británii, Kanadě, Austrálii, Německu, Francii, Nizozemí, Japonsku, Itálii, Číně, Rusku, Španělsku, Finsku, Austrálii, Tchaj-wanu a na Novém Zélandu.[11]

 

Aktivity 

Lynn Silipigni Connaway je doposud aktivně zapojena v mnoha výborech v rámci Americké knihovnické asociace (ALA), zahrnující pozici místopředsedkyně (2011-12) a následně předsedkyně (2012-13) Knihovnického výzkumného kulatého stolu, dále post místopředsedkyně (2009-11) a následně předsedkyně (2011-12) Asociace pro univerzitní a výzkumné knihovny (ACRL), Výboru pro plánování a revizi výzkumu a místopředsedkyně (2013-2014) a následně předsedkyně (2014-2015) Komise hodnot akademických knihoven. Sloužila ve výboru ALA v oblasti akreditací a je členem Asociace knihovních a informačně-vědních pedagogů (ALISE). Také je členemAsociace pro informační vědu a technologie (ASIS&T) a sloužila jako ředitelka ve správní radě (2012-2015), kde nyní působí jako prezidentka.[12]

Research methods in library and information science

Kniha obsahuje témata, jako jsou výzkumné strategie pro studenty doktorských knihoven a informačních věd, plánování výzkumu, definování problému, vytvoření teorie a testování teorie, vědecká metoda šetření a techniky sběru dat, metody průzkumu výzkumu a dotazníků, analýza kvantitativních údajů, výzkum založený na rozhovorech, psaní návrhů výzkumu a dokonce i dovednosti řízení času. Vysvětlení a soudobé příklady výzkumu poskytované odborníky z oboru nabízejí poradenství a různé strategie pro dokončení výzkumných projektů, dizertací a diplomových prací, jakož i pro psaní grantů, překonání spisovatelského bloku, spolupráci s kolegy a práci s externími konzultanty. Odpověď na téměř každou otázku, kterou si kladou nováčci výzkumu, je v této knize uvedena.[14]

 

Basic research methods for librarians

Tato kniha je adresovaná praktickým knihovníkům a dalším informačním profesionálům, stejně jako magisterským a doktorským studentům v programech LIS. Kniha se konkrétně zabývá výzkumnými metodikami, které pravděpodobně budou knihovníci používat, a poskytuje pokyny pro navrhování a provádění výzkumu a zveřejňování výsledků výzkumu. Kniha zdůrazňuje kvantitativní výzkum, včetně průzkumu a experimentálních studií. Zaměřuje se také na kvalitativní výzkum včetně historického výzkumu. Jedna celá kapitola je věnována také statistické analýze výsledků výzkumu. Vyhodnocování, psaní a publikování výzkumných zpráv je v této knize také považováno za důležité. Ve spolupráci s vynikajícími vědci z probírané oblasti jsou součástí knihy také příspěvky odborníků na kvantitativní výzkum, domněnky výzkumu a odběry vzorků. [15]

 

Reordering Ranganathan: Shifting User Behaviors, Shifting Priorities

Publikace, ve které je ukázáno, že u 5 zákonů knihovní vědy S. R. Ranganathana může být změněno pořadí a mohou být přehodnoceny tak, aby korespondovaly s dnešními knihovními službami a zdroji, stejně tak, aby reflektovaly chování lidí, když nimi pracují. [16]

Nejen že se dosud podílela na mnoha projektech, které mají/měli vliv na zlepšování kvality služeb knihoven (např. projekt Cyber Synergy, projekt Seeking Synchronicity) a usnadnění práce informačních pracovníků (např. projekt Digital Information Seeker Report). Navíc četná publikační činnost a aktivita v rámci Americké Knihovnické Asociace a Asociace pro informační vědu a technologie zajišťuje Lynn Silipigni Connaway velký vliv v rámci tohoto oboru.
