Francis Louis Miksa se narodil v Auroře, Illinois, USA, v roce 1939, tedy v době, kdy v Evropě začínala druhá světová válka. Byl synem dvou polských imigrantů, Francise L. Miksy, Sr. a&nbsp;Francesky Theresy&nbsp;Barowicz Miksové. Jeho otec se narodil v roce 2001 v&nbsp;Krakově, v roce 2004 však s rodiči emigroval do amerického státu Illinois. Zde vystudoval pouze základní školu a poté nastoupil do práce. Později se však účastnil korespondenčích kurzů a výuky matematiky, důsledkem čehož se z nej stal poměrně významný, avšak stále amatérský, matematik. Většinu svého života pracoval pro&nbsp;Illinois Bell Telephone Company, při své práci se ale stále věnoval matematice. Jeho matka&nbsp;Frances&nbsp;Theresa&nbsp;Barowicz se narodila v Illinoise polským imigrantům, kteří sem přicestovali z Poznaně.&nbsp;Svatbu spolu&nbsp;měli v roce 1924.
